“When you factor in rarity, value, quantity, and quality, it can be argued this is the single greatest baseball card find the hobby has ever witnessed.”
In early 2016, MINT State was contacted by a family going through their great-grandparents old, dilapidated house in a southern rural town. An old and torn paper bag was found on the floor and at first appeared to be trash. The bag was eventually picked up, opened, and at the bottom of the bag, face down, were seven Ty Cobb cards. In fact, these seven cards were the rare T206 Ty Cobb with the “Ty Cobb Tobacco” brand on the back. To put this into perspective, at the time of the find only fifteen of these cards were known to exist. MINT State had the cards graded by PSA and by April 2017, we had sold all seven cards using our direct sales method. Remarkably, the story didn't end there; the family resumed the cleanup of their ancestor’s old house in 2018 and found an eighth T206 Ty Cobb card with the “Ty Cobb Tobacco” back sandwiched between two dirty, faded books. The card was graded by PSA and dubbed “The Lucky 7 Legacy.”
