Project Description

At the time the Museum of Sports History consigned their collection to MINT State, a void was created at the top of the incredibly popular and widely collected Pro Football Hall of Fame Rookie Players set on the PSA Registry. Enter the Fight4OldDC Collection. Not only did this collector surpass the Museum’s recently retired number one ranked set, he crushed it. Highlighted by the most valuable football card in history, the only PSA MINT 9 ever graded of the 1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski, this 550-card collection represented “the best of the best” with respect to current and future Pro Football Hall of Famer rookie cards. A total of 300 cards were graded PSA GEM MT 10 or BGS GEM MINT 9.5 with an additional 160 cards graded PSA MINT 9 or BGS MINT 9, a staggering 84% of the entire collection.

Other highlights included:

  • 1933 Goudey Sport Kings #6 Jim Thorpe, PSA 9 MINT
  • 1948 Leaf #34 Sammy Baugh, PSA 8.5 NM-MT+
  • 1957 Topps #119 Bart Starr, PSA 9 MINT
  • 1958 Topps #62 Jim Brown, PSA 9 MINT
  • 1965 Topps #122 Joe Namath, PSA 9 MINT
  • 1971 Topps #156 Terry Bradshaw, PSA 10 GEM MT
  • 1972 Topps #200 Roger Staubach, PSA 10 GEM MT

The consignment contained 150 different Upper Deck Authenticated memorabilia items, autographed and framed, that spanned all sports. Michael Jordan jerseys highlighted the memorabilia portion of the Fight4OldDC Collection with Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali, Cal Ripken, Jr., Larry Bird, Walter Payton, and Wayne Gretzky also featured.

At the time of consignment, the estimated value of the entire collection was approximately $1,500,000.
